Northern California is on fire. They exper-ienced over 4,000 lightening strikes last weekend when a storm blew through and in the aftermath, firefighters are struggling with something like 800 fires. The smoke is drifting through to us, but each day is better than the day before.
I did not doctor this photo in any way. Those rays are exactly as they appeared while I was driving and that's why I just had to pull off the road and grab this shot. It's the particulate matter in the air from the fires that makes those rays visible.
At the same time, we're having a cicada infestation. It's one of those every 8-15 year cycle things and they last for a month. Unlike the Mormon crickets, they don't eat anything -they just make tons of racket until they're done breeding. We can't sit out on the deck at night without experiencing hearing loss, but I'm happy they're not murderers and munchers like the crickets.

The smoke can create amazing pictures. We've been having bright red sunsets. Cute baby coat and the buttons are perfect!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe all the wildfires! We had the cicada invasion last year and it was very gross. The suburbs were hit worst. Cute sweater!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know there were cicadas in the Reno area! I've never heard them. They're like a chorus at my brothers in Ohio.

I love the noise of cicadas! Well, I already have hearing loss so I guess it wouldnt bother me like it would someone who could hear them better :)

Believe it or not, we're even experiencing the hazy smoke of California's wildfires here! The sweater is fabulous (the colors remind me of summer, but will be cheery in winter, too); who is the recipient? I have one more arm/shoulder seam to finish on a BSJ, then buttons and it's done.
