Library Book

This was in the library book drop today. What do you think happened to this book and why on earth would anyone drop it off like this?? Maureen pulled it out of the bin and was completely stunned. Whoever would return a book like this, like we wouldn't notice?

Actually, it's a cookbook and it was checked out by our collections development librarian, who has a very spunky Jack Russell Terrorist, who appears to be the culprit in the this story. She told our library manager about it, who goaded her to go back outside and toss it in the bookdrop. So now we 're having a staff contest for the best excuse. "But it was like that when I checked it out," is my favorite so far.

I once had someone return a book soaking wet and covered with grey/green mold. They left the library at a run, as if we wouldn't know who had it checked out. My favorite, though is the copy of "Pet Therapy for the Elderly" that was returned all chewed up by little puppy teeth. I have to wonder how successful the therapy was.

LOL first glance told me 'the dog ate it'.
Gave me my morning chuckle, thanks Sharon!

"Library mysteries" are a favorite genre of mine. However this one was no deep mystery. Without even opening the cover, I knew that "the dog did it."

BTW, just picked up "What is the What" after listening to Dianne Rehm's book discussion today. Started reading it over my egg salad sandwich at lunch and I'm wishing I could cancel the next two days to allow me to sit and read.

Wow... maybe I'm glad I have cats rather than dogs. They leave my books alone! And my yarn, too.

Actually this happened to my dtr.
She "misplaced" a library book and then got a scathing "we need to talk to you" message from the library. They received the book in dreadful condition!!!
My dtr figured that it had to be run over by a car or something like that and some person picked it up, saw it was a library book and returned it!
At the time she was still looking for it around her house. We think it must have fallen out of her car.
