Disappointment

I was really pleased with how my Box Car Willie socks were looking. My shoulder ached from me patting my back on the cool corrugated ribbing on the rib and heel. Then I tried them on. It did not fit like a glove. It felt like an overcoat on my foot. I was stunned. Would these be my favorite socks? Would I even wear them? Ever??

The yarn was really expensive. This is now my socks looked when I left for work.

:-( It is never fun to have to rip something out.

However, the corrugated ribbing at the top and heel was, indeed, *very* cool!

Too bad it did look neat tho. Maybe just an ajustment in the number of stitches? Information from someone who hasn't knitted socks in ages!

you are much quicker to be honest with yourself than I am. That is wonderful yarn, so I'm sure you'll find a wonderful "something" to make with it.

I have seen similar balls of yarn in my house, usually followed by a hiatus from crocheting due to disgust. They did look great though...

I failed to mention the pattern which included some garter stitch. It's possible that the socks would have flattened with washing and blocking, but they were so thick that it felt like I had put on two socks. Before I try Boxcar Willie again, I'll swatch, wash and block, like real knitters do.

Swatches? We don't need no stinkin' swatches...

Seriously, though, you probably only had 3 hours knitting time in!! I'm knitting the Latvian socks from Folk Socks for my mom. I finished the mittens for my sister (last year's present), and needed to get started on the next IOU, but I hadn't dyed the yarn yet - I figured I'd knit them and then dye them!!

Your yarn is really beautiful - maybe it just needs to be plain to show off the beautiful colors?

I know you'll come up with something!!

My Boxcar Willy socks are coming out soft and not thick, so I think it must be that your yarn doesn't suit the pattern or gauge. I'm using Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock, and the fabric doesn't feel any thicker than plain stockinette, just a little textured. Hmmm...

You are a very brave frogger indeed. I always have to wait and mourn a bit before doing the deed. What a shame, though. That corrugated ribbing was gorgeous.
