Spinning

Yesterday morning I finished spinning the wool from Mim's ewe Limerick. I love the shine and the odd color that Laura has dubbed Brillo pad. This was the dirtiest fleece that I have ever processed, outside of my own. I'm happy to have nice yarn - phew.

I'm showing the finished skeins with a ball of actual black Shetland to how the difference in color. I'm still thinking about how to use these colors of Shetland. I think there are eleven.
Meanwhile, these are the skeins I've entered in the fair this year. I get caught every year with entries made - not actually presented. At least these are finished. My knitted entries, not so much.
And then this evening we had the surprise of a lifetime, at least the surprise of a month-
time, when the sky opened up and the rain fell so hard, it was splashing us and even protected on the deck, we were getting wet. Our neighbors Carol and Harry were visiting and because it dropped the temps, we actually got cold and had to go back into the house.
It rains here like seldom and never so this was an unexpected surprise and am absolute treat. I'll take it!!

The yarns are gorgeous. I don't spin anymore except a bit of cotton on a takli so am very green with envy!

Very pretty yarn Sharon! Don't you just love that? When its so hot you can't stand yourself, and that unexpected rain comes and makes everything so pleasant. I love the smell of the high desert during a rain, one of the many reasons I just don't think I'll ever leave.

I love the yarn that you've spun! It will be neat to see what you make with the handspun.

I love that gray yarn - it would make a lovely sweater.

So, if you get rain this time of year, does everything green up temporarily?

So many possibilities with that many colors of Shetland. You'll have a lot of fun with the design process.

Envy that rain! (And cooler temps).

Even though we get plenty of rain here, I am always delighted. I love the rain but guess you really love the rain there. When I first read what you said about brillo pad I thought it was funny. Then I looked at the yarn and it does sort of look a little shiny gray. I love it though. Good luck with your yarns for the fair. I have never had the courage to enter anyting in the fair.
