I spent the entire day today with DD Chris and friend Mary in thrift store pursuits. I kid you not, we spent the entire day (after my dental appointment), and in fact, delivered Mary to her mechanic to pick up her car just shy of their 5:00 deadline. Major finds: Christina was gaga over the black Capezios she found. That brought back memories, since the only shoes I wore in college were Capezios. Mary found a cabinet for hobby supplies.
My find knocked me on the back of my head. We have been to Junkees before, and somehow I missed that they have a substantial collection of vintage buttons. I bought buttons earlier today from a fabric store. I have the receipt and will return them. Any sweater I knit from now on - I know where to go for findings. No wonder they call the finishing items, findings. These are the buttons I chose for Alexia's sweater which I finished knitting from Diane's instructions. I'll show you the sweater after it's been washed and shaped.
Ian asked me to pull an onion last night because he was barbecuing burgers for us. This is a Texas sweet. While it tastes mild and sweet, I'm not sure I'd want to plant it again. I'm stunned at how much growth is lost in the stalk. The other half of our onions are Walla Wallas. I'd just as soon they all were. BTW, our collection in the Havahart trap by tonight after one week, is up to five pack rats and five squirrels. I was pretty sad for tonight's catch, clearly a juvenile. I'm just not into poisoning these guys. I am pretty sure we are just releasing coyote bait, as being inside our fence keeps them safe.
Orchid grass from Susanville. This is pretty stuff and at $6.50 a bale, we're feeling pretty smug. Our guys like Dave's grass hay and I think he likes delivering partial loads to us. We have got to get the hay shed up. I told Ian - that's an activity for the Gathering. Erect the Campbell's hay shed!
I don't know about where you are, but August has been a sweet piece of the pie - cool mornings, cool evenings, open windows, crickets singing. Goodness.
