Chemistry in the Kitchen

Alexia and I have planned this cookie-making afternoon all week. I picked her up from school on Friday so she could spend the night. She was so excited that I bought two kinds of sprinkles for the Snickerdoodles. The two bowls of sprinkles are behind her right shoulder, the bowl of dough and our snoopervisor are behind her left shoulder.

She has carefully made balls that she feels are the same size by placing a new ball next to a previous ball and then crouching to look at them together. I told her - big balls make big cookies.
She said she needed to make a pattern, so every other ball of cookie dough goes into the second bowl. Notice the left hand - not sure what it's function is.
And again, the girly left hand. I guess you can tell she's right handed. She told her mother that she's the Snickerdoodle Princess. On the drive home she told me that her mother is jolly like a pony. There's no explaining this girl.
She's been in first grade for two weeks and this is the point in cookie making where she explains to me what she has learned about molecules. There are three states of matter - liquid, solid and gas. If you have a couple of minutes, she will explain it. You will be enlightened.

It's no wonder the Snickerdoodle Princess knows so much about chemistry. Pastry IS Chemistry! And my boss calls me the Pastry Princess!

aren't granddaughters wonderful?

That was terrific! I am so glad you had a lot of time together for science (after all, isn't cooking just science you can eat?).

LOL, wonder what future experiments you two will get up to in the kitchen..:)

How adorable! And they learn about molecules in first grade?

So how did the cookies come out?
