Boring Post

Warning - this may be boring. Ian and I drove down to Carson City, the state capital, yesterday for a retirement reception. Our dear friend Holly is retiring from the State library and we wanted to celebrate her. This is our capital building.
Pardon me if I get silly about the building, but it's the architec-
tural style of all the buildings here from that time, including the Carson City Mint, now the Nevada State Museum.
I promise to stop after this photo, but if you were reading my blog in October, you would know how much I love architecture. The day was nasty and cold and I chose not to Photoshop to preserve my misery. This speaks to me of the history of the west. Nevada achieved statehood in 1864 so we're a youngster in American history and a baby in world history.
Before Holly's reception, we stopped in the Carson City Library's BRIC (business resource and information center) to visit with a couple of friends. The place is filled with art through the Capital City Arts Initiative. This fused glass piece is over the reception desk and I fell in love with it from the moment I walked in the door. The fused glass panels have post office door inserts.
The doors are functional and each one has an image which can be changed at will. I started arranging the purchase but when we got home, I realized we owe on taxes. I'm not saying we're not buying this, we're just not buying it right now. The artists are Carol and William Hutchinson - I'm pretty sure I love their work.

It was an honor for me to attend this reception. Lucy Bouldin who has been the librarian in Virginia City - yes THE Virginia City - for 30 years and who taught music with that autoharp for as many - singing a tribute to Holly who has committed her library career to rural libraries. Pepper and Salt. Did I cry? Yup.
This is Ian and Kathy Edwards, both govern-
ment document librarians. I've known and worked with Kathy for more than ten years and was thrilled to see her again, also saddened to learn the same day that she has cancer. We've always been straight shooters so I asked her what's up. She was diagnosed with melanoma September 2009. This is probably the last time I will see her. Did I cry. Yup.
On a happier note, look who came to our guild meeting today. Doris has a bummer lamb, rejected by his mom and now bottle fed by Doris. I kicked myself later for not taking a video. He follows her everywhere. He's smells wonderful - like wool, like sheep.
He was the center of attention, but not because we demanded it, but because we couldn't stop adoring him. I don't envy shepherds. They have to decide who gets to remain and contribute to the flock and who gets eaten. Mim says it just kills her to make those choices. I'm glad to be a spectator because we buy from her one of those who get eaten. This was a rather dark post wasn't it. Sorry. The Easter bunny is on his way~

Not dark; REAL. I'm sorry about your friend; so sorry. And I'm glad I'm a vegetarian, because I couldn't eat my "extras." And so far, no one else has had to eat mine, either, except for Braveheart. Not bad in, what six or seven years of having sheep?

You're not planning on eating the Easter Bunny are you?
I can't tell if I should warn him or not!
Lovely pictures of the building and art work. I would want it too! So sorry about your friend Kathy.
The bummer lamb is adorable, that must have been a treat at guild for sure.

What a sweet little lamb. Growing up on a dairy farm, we always knew the little bulls that we bottle-fed were going to be either eaten or sold one day. It was just part of the process for us. There's nothing "dark" about a good, fresh steak!
