Phoney Sheep

The phone rang yesterday when I was weaving the last inches on my towels. "Hi, this is Lynn Lloyd. Do you own horses? I have a bet riding on this." Lynn owns Ross Creek Ranch, the largest horse ranch in our area. I said, no. "What are the large animals in your backyard?" Um, llamas, I said. "Did you ever own horses?" Nope, I said. "Thank you, honey. I just won the bet!" That would never have happened when I lived in town!

That was funny. Did she think you were in competion with her for owning horses? Some out there must have bad eye site if they think llamas look like horses...

Love the phoney sheep. very cute! Is there some inside joke about the horses I didn't get?

Apparently horse riders seem to think that llamas are hostile to horses and can display aggressive behavior that causes horses to shy. Several of our neighbors were dismayed when we got the llamas because they felt they wouldn't be able to ride by here.

Lynn is the hunt master for the "fox hunts" out here and Helen often rides with them, right by our place, yet she paid so little attention to our "hostile" large animals that she didn't realize they weren't horses. I'm sorry - I shouldn't have left that out of the story.

What is the story about the fake sheep. They are quite creative. Where are they?

??? Did you ever find out what the bet was about? Inquiring minds want to know!

Some llamas are hostile to anyone; ditto for some horses, humans, cats... Others are mellow. Part "personality" and part conditioning.

If they have dogs running with the hunt, that changes things -- just about anything will defend its territory from running dogs. Is it a huntless hunt?
