Finally, a Finished Sweater

I finally finished this sweater, for the second time. I bought this yarn over ten years ago from Diane Soucy when she ran the wool room at the Truckee Variety Store and before she was Knitting Pure and Simple. I knit it into a pullover sweater that was so hot and heavy that I was never able to wear it. Finally last year I frogged the whole thing, rinsed the wool, skeined and rewound it, feeling just a little righteous. I have finally completed it and realize that I selected this yarn at a time in my life when everything I wore was denim blue. Now I'm wondering if I have just finished yet another sweater that I will never wear.

I had seen these cast glass buttons at Jimmy Beans Wool and was convinced that they were the perfect way to finish off the sweater. I didn't stop to think that they weigh a ton, and while they would probably be fine on a v-neck sweater, they make the neck flap down on this crew neck. I can't reknit the yarn - the wool is pretty fragged and has lost some of memory. So I guess I need to go button hunting again - or not wear the sweater or just pretend that I don't care that the button is flapping around below my neck. There's a reason I don't know sweaters for myself.

Feeling in need of a little humor, I'm glad I got it from Valerie.

I like your sweater. Looks good with the jeans! A great casual sweater. I know what you mean about heavy buttons. I bought quite a few sterling silver antique buttons (English military) 10 years ago. I sewed buttons on two sweaters and they do indeed make the sweaters hang funny. I've never gotten around to getting different buttons. Maybe I should, eh?

It looks fabulous! Maybe it does need lighter buttons, but from here it's a very comfy, nice looking sweater.

It looks great! Just in time for cooler weather too. I'm sure you'll find buttons you'll be happy with. Keep us updated on this!

I'm psyching myself up to knit a pullover, but your post gave me pause. Perhaps (how long can these P words keep popping into my poor head?) I need to change my plans? At this stage in my life "layers" definitely work better.... I LIKE your sweater!

I think the sweater looks great on you. The button isn't flapping in the photo?

However, I too have become very sensitive about the weight of garments and jewelry in the past few years. I just don't want to be wearing a 3lb. sweater. And I can't stand heavy necklaces around my neck no matter how good they look. Maybe this is my version of "sorting" that Bonnie is talking about in http://weavingspirit.blogspot.com/2007/10/from-gathering-to-sorting.html

It looks like a sweater you will get a lot of use from, though you might be right about wanting light buttons instead.
