Goodbye to October

I love this month and I love the many shades of gold on the Nevada landscape right now. Ross Creek Ranch has the most spectacular cottonwood trees of anyone and I am thrilled by them each day as I drive by.

We had exper- ienced rain all through the night so I didn't have the usual sunlight this morning that makes these trees absolutely glow.
Because the road is so windy and without shoulders, that's Eleanor parked up there. It was the first place I could safely pull over to walk back for this picture. Everything, even the grass, is golden right now.
Trotting back to the car I could hear the unmis- takable sound of running water. If you click for big, you'll see the stream from a little high desert spring.
Ross Creek is dammed into three ponds and this is the bottom one, actually leased by a fly fishing instructor as a classroom. The streaks on the surface are ducks. I love our high desert environment, but I respect it too. It's a fickle and unpredictable climate. Our poor meteorologists, they keep trying to predict the weather. It would be a bad thing to bet on.

What *beautiful* pictures! And what a gorgeous part of the country you live in -- October does bring it out in a place, but all of that gold is stunning.

Sharon - Those are awesome pictures. Even w/out direct sun - the camera captured the golden color of this time of year. I love living here, too!

Im with you; northern Nevada is unequalled in its splendor, no matter what time of year. I got a giggle out of the 'poor medeorologists' comment; it is a long running joke in this part of the country that a rope would do as well ;-)

The cottonwood trees are fabulous. Igor and I went to Hazel Ryland's sale on Sat., and I couldn't believe the intense gold colors everywhere. Your pictures are outstanding.

We loved seeing the bright yellows against the Ponderosas & the junipers in Arizona - so very pretty - our color here comes from the maples - reds and oranges - that yellow is hard to beat. T.

Hi Sharon, just a quick note about the center-pull ball plying. In the comments, Rona (don't know if she has a blog or not) described a solution for the same problem you mentioned. Her method definitely seems worth a try!
