Company

This morning Ian called to me from the bedroom window. I went to see what he wanted, and this is what I saw. Take a look at the bird feeder on the right.

Think he's a flying squirrel?

I had a pet flying squirrel when I was a kid. My father was a logger and they had felled a tree that contained her sleeping quarters. I don't think that the desert is their habitat, but then I can't be sure. They have very large eyes because they are nocturnal and are on the smallish size -- close to Douglas squirrel size. They also tame very easily. Mine was let loose after we had her about a year and she went back to the wild without a glance backward:-)

I have a local squirrel that visits my feeders. He likes to hang out on the top support rail on the backside of my fence, so usually I just see his bushy tail bobbing along over the top of the fence.
